About FolioTrack
FolioTrack is built by a small team — a tech lead developer by trade, and a long-term investor by habit, running an SMSF and personal portfolios for years.
What kept bothering us was how most tools treat a portfolio. Log in a few times a year, maybe check in when something's moved a lot, and otherwise wait for tax time — download a report, file it, forget about it until next year. That's fine if all you want is a number for your accountant. It's not enough if you actually want to understand what you own and why you own it.
We also never trusted a simple benchmark line. "You vs the index" doesn't tell you your actual risk-adjusted return, what leverage is really costing you, or whether your strategy is behaving the way you think it is. We wanted to see a portfolio the way an institutional analyst would — with the ratios that actually matter, not just a chart that goes up or down.
So the idea behind FolioTrack isn't reporting. It's staying close to your own thinking. You write down why you bought something — your actual thesis — and you can come back and update it as your view changes. Read it again in six months and you're not just checking a price, you're checking whether you were right, and how your own thinking has evolved.
Think clearly — know what you own, and why.
Log your investment decisions, track your reasoning, and tag entries to find patterns in your thinking.
